'm not talking about basic weapons or weapons that are used in hunting. to the best of my knowledge, if anyone uses an assault weapon in hunting with a 30-round magazine, i would be quite surprised by that. and, by the way, if they do and because of public safety, that should go away, then i believe that should go away. .c. to boston today. and plenty of snow in the back end behind it. we use this model to show us where the worst winds will be. what you need to look at is the red arrows. and those red arrows go from the boston area, north into maine, all the way to atlanta. this storm has big snowfall totals, big-time. 20 inches of snow coming down in some locations. and one of those places, williamsburg, iowa, picked up a good, heavy snowstorm and a blizzard. our ginger zee is right there. good morning, ginger. >> sam, we're tried desperately to get to chicago, just couldn't do it. i-80 kept shutting down. you can see why. this is what litters the side of the highway everywhere. trucks, semi-trucks. it was such a rough night and really, this storm isn't quite done with us yet. overnight, the lashing winds and blowing snow stretched from nebraska to michigan. major highways across the midwest, shut down. as drivers struggled to stay on them. believe it or not, this is i-80. look at the long line of cars. just a complete parking lot. we've been here for at least 30 minutes. and we don't know how long we're goin

we were covering the shooting in newtown, connecticut, anderson learned something that made us all sick to our stomach that people were trying to capitalize on the tragedy, fraudulently trying to capitalize on the victims' family families. tonight a woman has been arrested in connection with one of those alleged scams. drew will join me with the details in a moment. first here's how we got to this point. last week the uncle of 6-year-old noah told anderson there were fake web site, facebook pages and e-mails going around asking for donations in noah's name. drew griffin and david fitzpatrick, our produce, tracked one of those e-mails to the bronx, and her name is noah alba, and they went to her house. here is what happened next. >> hi. are you ms. alba? you set up donations on behalf of the newtown tragedy? >> no. >> here is your name and address on the e-mail. >> no, i will show you who i am. >> can i come in with the camera crew? >> no. >> alba eventually agreed to let her voice be recorded and denied she had anything to do with the e-mail having to do with donations. this is mor

and that gunman is dead. as police have been telling us now, 20 children dead, 18 of them dead at the scene. and in addition to that, six adults are also dead, including the principal of the school. we understand that yet another adult was found dead at another location that police are not officially disclosing as of yet. and we are told that the mother of the suspected shooter, who is also dead at the scene, was also killed. she is a teacher and she was also killed at that school, according to our law enforcement sources. in addition to this, we are also told by our sources that another person is being questioned at this time but is not being called a suspect right now, and also that person is not being identified, wolf. so while the school is being called secure and safe by law enforcement authorities right now, they are -- they still have a lot of investigating to do. they have not officially released the name of the shooter or the other person being questioned or the names of any of the victims at this time. it's just an awful scene, and parents found out about this, wolf, when they rec

handguns, at least one rifle. and then also bob, this a.p. report that john just brought us up to date on, that the brother may be in custody. what have you learned? >> i keep asking that question, all of our folks here working the phones and we're asking the question of various sources, is there one shooter? is there more than one shooter? who's the second person that was detained at the scene? and i have to tell you, so far all of the information we're getting-- it always comes with a caveat-- but it all seems to suggest there was one shooter. the person who was detyned near the shooting scene was a man described as wearing b.d.u.s, khaki fatigues and working near the woods. i had a number of people tell me we don't think he's a player in this. that said, now the associated press says they're talking to the shooter's younger brother as john made the point this might just be due diligence by investigators to obviously want to talk to available family members and friends and close associates. so we can't say one way or the other and i think we need to be careful about not getting out too

's a phrase we use a lot on this program, and one we're passionate enough. we have it's important to point out dishonesty. never more important than tonight. last week covering the shooting in newtown, anderson learned something that made us all sick to our stomach that people were trying to capitalize on the tragedy, fraudulently trying to capitalize on the victims' families. thanks to reporting by anderson, drew griffin and producer david fitzpatrick, tonight a woman has been arrested in connection with one of those alleged scams. drew will join me with the details in a moment. first here's how we got to this point. last week the uncle of 6-year-old noah pozner who was among the 20 children killed at sandy hook elementary told anderson there were fake websites, facebook pages and e maims going around asking for donations in noah's name. drew griffin and david fitzpatrick tracked one of those e-mails to a woman in the bronx and went to her house. her name is noah alba. here is what happened next. >> hi. are you ms. alba? you set up donations on behalf of one of the victims of the newtown trag

scheduled a news conference for 1:00 eastern. joining us on the phone, msnbc analyst and former fbi profiler clint van zandt. clint, give us your read, your assessment, on this situation? >> well, we know that the shooter is dead. we don't know whether that is by law enforcement action when the first responding officers went in and confronted him or whether, as we saw in the portland, oregon, mall shooting this past week, whether the shooter actually shot himself committing suicide. we know that at least two handguns were found. you know, that takes us back to april 2007 when the shooter at virginia tech, in that case, who killed 32 and wounded 15, also had two handguns. what it does suggest, though, is that this individual went in there with carrying two handguns and perhaps other ammunition. he went in there apparently to confront someone. we're told that confrontation took place in the office of the school and may have spilled out from there. we're still trying to understand the number of victims and the level of injury. >> clint, you know, when we talk about these shootings, first off, t
